Built in the open, not just claimed
Maatram is built and used daily by Team Maatram at SSVM School of Excellence — every line of it is public on GitHub, so you never have to take our word for it.
Nobody decides to lose an evening to a feed. It goes one unlock at a time, and the app is built so you never feel it happen. Maatram puts the cost back where you can see it.
Every feature pays out or charges you in points, so focus and distraction both show up on the same scoreboard.
Pomodoro 25/5 and Deep Work 90/15. Finish a session, collect the points, watch the streak build.
+25 / +100 PTSHard-lock Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and the rest for 5 to 90 minutes. Open one anyway and it costs you.
-10 PTS per openFive people, one room code, synced timers. Everyone sees who opened what — three strikes and you are out.

Weekly bonusEvery point from every feature lands here. Real students only — the list fills as your friends join.
Live rankingBuild a private 7-day meal plan around your goal, activity level and food preferences, then track streaks, hydration, activity and sleep.

Maatram is a free screen-time and focus web app for students. Four students at SSVM School of Excellence in Coimbatore, India built it. It puts six tools on one points balance: Focus Timers, App Gate, Study Room, Screen Stats, Leaderboard and Wellness.
Deleting the apps works for about two days. Maatram takes the other route: it keeps the apps where they are and puts a cost, a pause and an audience between you and the feed. Every tool on this site feeds one points balance, so a focused hour and a lost hour both show up in the same number.
App Gate is the hard-lock screen. Pick a window between 5 and 90 minutes and Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and the rest stay shut for the whole run. There is no early exit, and opening a social app while the gate is open costs 10 points instead of a lecture. On the Android build the same lock is enforced outside the browser by Maatram Shield, so switching apps does not switch off the rule.
A Study Room holds five students on one room code with their timers synced live. Everyone in the room sees who opened which app, and three strikes puts you out of the session. There is a chat in the room so people can say something before the third strike lands. Rooms survive a page change, so walking to App Gate and back does not drop your seat.
Focus Timers run Pomodoro at 25 and 5 minutes and Deep Work at 90 and 15. Finishing a session pays points and extends the streak. Screen Stats is where you log daily per-app screen time by hand and watch the week take shape as a chart; beat the week before's daily average (3+ logged days each week) and the bonus lands automatically. The Leaderboard ranks real signed-in students only, so the list starts empty and fills as your friends join.
Maatram is a school venture from SSVM School of Excellence, built by a team of four. The tagline is Action gives value, and the site says what it does in plain terms: inspired by Gen Z, made by Gen Z, made for Gen Z. Everything runs free, and the whole thing is reachable from a browser or the Android build.
Maatram is for anyone who wants to spend less time on their phone, and you can start without an account. Every tool opens straight away. Pages that award points show a small guest bar asking you to sign in, because points are only saved to an account. Signing in is Google only, and there is nothing else to set up. Nothing on the site needs an install to try — the Android build is there for people who want the lock enforced outside the browser, and the Maatram Hard Lock Chrome extension does the same job in Chrome on a laptop.
There is a single number behind everything. Finishing a Pomodoro pays 25 and a Deep Work block pays 100. Ten minutes in a Study Room pays 10. Each daily Wellness check (meals, water, activity, sleep) pays 25, up to 100 a day. Opening a social app on App Gate takes 10 points off. Come in under your own weekly screen-time average and the weekly bonus lands on the same balance. That balance is what the Leaderboard sorts on, so the ranking reflects work done rather than time logged in.
| Tool | Session | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Pomodoro timer | 25 min focus, 5 min break | +25 |
| Deep Work timer | 90 min focus, 15 min break | +100 |
| Study Room | 10 minutes, up to 5 people | +10 |
| App Gate Hard Lock | 5 to 90 minutes | +10 per 5 min locked; -10 per app opened |
| Wellness checks | Meals, water, activity, sleep (4 a day) | +25 each, up to +100 a day |
| Screen Stats | One week | Bonus under your weekly average |
Screen-time entries on the Stats page are yours to type in, and your daily numbers stay in that browser. The Leaderboard shows points, not hours, so nobody else sees what you use your phone for. Full detail lives on the privacy page, and the terms page covers the rest.
Screen time is not only a study problem, so the site also carries a Sports corner for what happens once the phone is down. It sits alongside the focus tools rather than replacing them, and it uses the same account.
Yes. Maatram is completely free and open source. There are no ads, no paid tier and no subscription.
Maatram puts friction between you and distracting apps. The App Gate makes you wait and pay a points toll before opening social media, Hard Lock blocks chosen apps for 5 to 90 minutes, and focus timers plus study rooms reward the time you spend off your phone.
No. Every tool, including Timers, App Gate, Study Room, Screen Stats, Leaderboard, Wellness and the Sports Corner, opens without an account. Sign in with Google if you want your points saved and shown on the Leaderboard; pages that award points show a small bar reminding guests of this. Listing a sports event also needs a sign-in.
The daily screen-time numbers you enter on the Stats page are stored locally in your own browser. If you sign in, your name, photo and points are saved to your account so they can appear on the Leaderboard.
