How to stop scrolling reels: 5 friction tricks for students
Oct 2026
Five ways to scroll fewer reels by adding a pause before the app opens, from a wait at the door to a Chrome extension for your laptop.
Version 2.0: grow a sakura while you focus
Oct 2026
Your sakura: start a Hard Lock and a seed is planted. It sprouts, grows and blooms while the lock runs, under a sky that follows the real time of day.
Temptation drops leaves: each time you try a locked app, the tree drops a leaf, and you can see which apps you tried.
My garden: every finished lock plants a tree, with your streak, total focus minutes and a 4-week grid where empty squares show missed days.
Maatram Hard Lock 2.0 for Android: the same sakura on the lock screen, plus a home-screen widget with the growing tree and a live countdown.
Focuz has a new look: the help bot is now a mini ronin whose katana slices a phone, and it knows 150+ more topics.
Wellness, the Chrome extension and a simpler sign-in
Sep 2026
Wellness: a new page that builds a private 7-day meal plan around your goal, activity level and food preferences, with four daily checks (meals, hydration, activity and sleep). Each check adds +25 points, up to +100 a day. Your plan and checks stay on your device.
Maatram Hard Lock for Chrome: our Chrome extension is now published on the Chrome Web Store. During a Hard Lock it blocks Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, X and Facebook in Chrome, and it counts time spent on them so the Stats page can include your laptop time.
No more roles or class codes: the role picker and class codes have been removed. Every tool now opens without an account, and signing in with Google saves your points.
Privacy policy updated (28 September 2026): it now describes the analytics we use (Microsoft Clarity, Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights), the public relay that Study Rooms use for live sync, and what the Leaderboard shows to other signed-in users.
Sports Corner is live
Aug 2026
A new page for finding and posting offline sports events across Tamil Nadu — no points involved, just a place to find your next match. Register links always go straight to the organiser's own page.
The App Gate friction layer
Jul 2026
Instead of a flat block, opening a social app now costs you 10 points, and if you're in a Study Room your roommates see the strike.
Live study rooms, five people at a time
Jul 2026
Join a room, sync your focus timer with your friends, and see the moment someone opens a distracting app. Strikes and sessions now survive you switching pages.
Leaderboard and streaks
Jul 2026
Real students, ranked by real productivity points — no placeholder names. A monthly cycle now runs alongside the all-time board so the ranking resets fair each month.
From Android app to website, and back again
Jul 2026
We started building Maatram as an Android app, pivoted to a website to ship faster, and later wrapped the finished site back into a native Android app with real accessibility-based app blocking (Maatram Shield).
